What Is A Banana Bread Brownies?

Banana Bread Brownies Recipe 1

In my opinion, if you’re going to make brownies – whether traditional or banana bread style – they should either be thick and fudgy like a shortbread cookie or slightly cake-like. The best part is that since this recipe only uses bananas, I didn’t have any problem adding additional healthy ingredients such as protein powder (to boost nutrient density) and fiber-rich nuts.

As delicious as these banana bread brownies are, there are some improvements I would make to the recipe. Since these brownies use cane sugar and not honey or agave nectar (which can be pretty expensive), replacing 1/3 of that with another kind of sweetener is best. This will prevent them from being too sweet and cut down on any aftertaste you may have when eating them for dessert.

In addition, because these brownies are made without oil, they will not be as chewy or dense when sliced. The added fiber from the banana bread combined with the nuts can make them a little mushy in your mouth after eating several slices. To counteract this effect, I would either add some extra protein powder or try other flour like whole wheat and just baking hybrid (or 100%) to help firm it up.

Origins Of Banana Bread Brownies

These banana bread brownies can trace their origin back to a 1997 Los Angeles Times recipe by Kathryn Jacobsen, which was subsequently published on the cover of Parade Magazine. She developed her version, which uses honey and whole wheat flour.

Still, once she discovered that those ingredients made the brownie too chewy (instead of light and cake-like), like many other recipes prior regarding this topic over time have done, I felt it appropriate that I carry on the tradition of making these banana bread brownies healthier, while still maintaining their taste.

For a rich and delicious dessert, pair banana bread brownies with a scoop of ice cream or some whipped cream. Alternatively, if you’re looking for something more nutritious, try serving them as part of a healthy breakfast smoothie or lunchtime salad instead.
